Jio Platforms Eyes US Expansion, In Talks To License AirFiber Technology To Comcast And Charter

Can technology built for India's broadband market become Jio's next global business opportunity? Jio Platforms is reportedly in discussions with US telecom giants Comcast and Charter Communications to license its proprietary Unlicensed Band Radio (UBR) technology, which powers its AirFiber fixed wireless broadband services.

The proposed arrangement could involve technology licensing in exchange for equity stakes, allowing Jio to expand internationally without building its own telecom networks overseas. With 30 million fixed broadband subscribers in India, including 15.1 million AirFiber users, Jio has a sizeable domestic deployment to showcase. However, the discussions remain at the negotiation stage, with no confirmed agreement announced.
