IISc Spin-Out Venomics AI Raises $2.7M To Turn Venom Into Medicines

What if the next medicine comes from venom? Venomics AI, an IISc spin-out based in Bengaluru, has raised $2.7 million in a pre-seed round co-led by Speciale Invest and South Park Commons, with participation from Operators Studio. Co-founded in May by IISc professor Kartik Sunagar and Vinay Prabhu, the startup combines venom biology, AI and laboratory screening to identify potential therapeutic molecules.
The funds will go toward expanding its Venom Atlas, a dataset of venom molecules and what they do, strengthening its AI and screening capabilities, and building a multidisciplinary team. The company says it aims to tap India’s largely unexplored venom biodiversity as a new source for drug discovery. It is still at an early stage.
