EyeROV Delivers India's First Indigenous Military-Grade Underwater Robots to the Navy

India's underwater defence technology has reached an important milestone as Kochi-based marine robotics startup EyeROV delivers two indigenous military-grade underwater robots to the Indian Navy. Called TROUT, these remotely operated underwater vehicles are designed to perform complex missions such as underwater inspection, surveillance, reconnaissance, search and recovery, and robotic intervention in challenging subsea environments.
Co-founded by Johns T. Mathai and Kannappa Palaniappan P., EyeROV developed TROUT under the Indian government's Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) programme. The two delivered systems are part of a ₹47 crore order for five ROVs. Before delivery, the platform underwent extensive trials and naval quality-assurance testing to validate its performance in deep water, poor visibility and strong underwater currents. The achievement marks an important step for India's homegrown marine robotics capabilities and defence manufacturing ecosystem.
