GomatiRoots Turns Bihar's Traditional Homemade Badi Into a Growing Food Brand

What began with the taste of her mother's homemade badi has grown into a business with a much bigger purpose. Shital Gupta, founder of Patna-based GomatiRoots, set out to bring Bihar's traditional food flavours to more people and give homemade regional products a recognised place in the market. Today, the brand offers dal badi, moongori, pickles, papads and traditional snacks, carrying a piece of Bihar's food heritage beyond the home.

The journey is already showing results. In its first financial year, GomatiRoots generated ₹32 lakh in revenue and expanded its presence to more than 50 retail stores across Patna. Shital also received ₹1 lakh in funding through YourStory's Shuru Kar initiative. Beyond building the brand, she is collaborating with rural women's self-help groups to bring their traditional food products to wider markets. Her journey shows how a family memory can inspire a business while creating opportunities for others.
