What If Cameras Could See Through Smoke and Haze?
Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup Nova Spectral AI has raised ₹21.15 crore in seed funding, led by Shastra VC, with participation from Equirus InnovateX Fund and angel investors.
Founded by IIT Kanpur alumni Anish Priyadarshi and Sanjeev Kumar, the startup is developing short-wave infrared (SWIR) image sensor chips designed to capture images in low-light conditions and through smoke, haze and dust.
Unlike conventional infrared sensors that can be expensive, Nova Spectral AI is developing a chip using quantum-dot technology and standard silicon manufacturing processes, with the goal of making this imaging technology more affordable.
The funding will support team expansion and development of a field-ready prototype targeted within 18 months, with potential applications in drones, robotics, autonomous vehicles and other imaging systems.
Where could this technology make the biggest difference: emergency response, drones, robotics or everyday cameras?
