India’s AI-for-Indian-languages boom has a concentration problem. According to Tracxn’s Indic AI report, 34 companies building AI for Indian languages have raised $657 million across 56 rounds since 2021. Sarvam accounts for most of the 2026 funding, and excluding its two rounds, the other companies raised $54 million across seven rounds this year. The report says every round so far has been at the seed or early stage, with no late-stage round yet.

The report splits the 34 companies in two. For 18, including Sarvam, Gnani AI, Soket AI Labs and BharatGen, language technology is the core product. For the other 16, including Skit ai, Nuplay AI and GreyLabs, Indic-language capability is a differentiator within a broader enterprise offering. The first late-stage round will be the signal to watch.
